Swimming and diving arena at Europasportpark (SSE)

Distance from our hotel: 2 km

The swimming arena at Europasportpark was built in 2000 and has been the venue for lots of national and international competitions. Many records have already been broken there. Not only the FINA World Cup, but also the German Championships and “Jahrgangsmeisterschaften” (championships by age group) have been taking place at this venue for the past 16 years. The SSE is the German diver’s federal base and state training centre for swimming.

How to get there: The swimming and diving arena is located right next to the suburban train and tram stops at Landsberger Allee. When going by tram, please take the lines M5 or M6.

Velodrom

Distance from our hotel: 2 km

The Velodrom is located right next to the swimming and diving arena at Europasportpark. With 12,000 spectator seats, Berlin’s cycling Mecca is also one of the city’s largest event venues. Apart from cycling, other sports competitions like ping pong, motocross, equestrianism or figure skating are held at the Velodrom. Thanks to its outstanding sound and production conditions, it is also a great venue for concerts, galas and corporate events.

How to get there: The Velodrom is located right next to the suburban train and tram stops at Landsberger Allee. When going by tram, please take the lines M5 or M6.

Sportforum Hohenschönhausen

The Sportforum is Berlin’s no. 1 competitive sports centre, where many regional, national and international competitions take place. The venue consists of 35 sports grounds and modern sports medicine and physiotherapeutic facilities. Not only is it the German Centre of Olympic Athleticism but it is also home to 20 sports clubs. More than 3,000 top-class, junior and professional athletes as well as over 300 national team members use the grounds for training purposes.

How to get there: The Sportforum Hohenschönhausen can be easily reached by tram lines M5, M6 and M13. Tram stops: Hohenschönhauser Straße/Weißenseer Weg or Haltestelle Sportforum

Max-Schmeling-Halle

Distance from our hotel: 8 km

Max-Schmeling-Halle is located in the trendy district of Prenzlauer Berg. Like the Velodrom and the SSE, it was built in the course of the applications for the Olympic Games in 2000. The multipurpose hall is a regular venue for sports competitions, concerts and other premium events. International stars like Robbie Williams and Madonna have already rocked the stage there. The venue is also home to two Bundesliga (national league) teams: the handball team “Füchse Berlin” (Berlin Foxes) and the “Berlin Recycling Volleys” volleyball team.

How to get there: We recommend public transport, since there is no visitor parking at the hall. The underground station at Eberswalder Straße, the suburban train and underground station at Schönhauser Allee and the tram stops at Milastraße and Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn Sportpark are within walking distance.

Mercedes-Benz Arena

The Mercedes-Benz Arena is one of the world’s most modern multipurpose arenas. Inaugurated in 2008, it holds up to 17,000 spectators during numerous national and international top-notch sports, music and entertainment events. The “Berliner Eisbären“ (Berlin Polar Bears) ice hockey team’s and the “Alba Berlin” basketball team’s home matches are held at the venue. State-of-the-art technical equipment and the unique architecture guarantee perfect acoustics and best views from every tier.

How to get there: The Mercedes-Benz Arena is located in the centre of Berlin. The suburban train station at Warschauer Straße is only a 3-minutes’ walk away, and Ostbahnhof train station 6 minutes.
